Alfred E. Willard was a textile manufacturer of Columbia, S.C. The collection is chiefly letters from Willard's friend, Edward Jenner Warren (1826-1876), of Washington, Beaufort County, N.C. Warren was a member of the North Carolina senate during most of the period. The letters discuss personal and family news; business matters, including loans, orders, property transfers, and the general outlook for manufacturing; politics, especially in 1866; and military news during the Civil War.
